Sri Guruvayurappan

Sri Guruvayurappan is the beloved form of Lord Krishna worshipped at the sacred Guruvayur Temple in Kerala. According to temple tradition, when Dwaraka was submerged after Lord Krishna’s departure from the earth, the divine idol worshipped by Krishna was entrusted to Guru Brihaspati and Vayu Deva. They carried the idol in search of a sacred place and, with Lord Shiva’s guidance, consecrated it on the banks of the Rudratheertha. The place came to be known as Guruvayur, combining the names of Guru and Vayu. This sacred legend makes Guruvayurappan a cherished form of Krishna, believed to bless devotees with peace, protection, health, prosperity, and divine grace.
