Sri Sirsi Marikamba

Sri Sirsi Marikamba Devi is one of the most revered forms of the Divine Mother in Karnataka, worshipped as a powerful guardian and compassionate mother. According to local tradition, the sacred idol was discovered in a pond near Sirsi after a devotee received a divine message in a dream. The villagers believed that the Goddess herself had chosen Sirsi as her abode. With the permission of the Sonda ruler, Sri Marikamba Devi was consecrated in Sirsi in 1689. She is revered in various forms such as Mari, Maremma, Mahakali and Durga, and devotees seek her blessings for protection, health, prosperity and the removal of hardships. Her grand Sirsi Marikamba Jatre has become an important cultural and devotional celebration, attracting devotees from across Karnataka and neighbouring states.
